Strength Training & Conditioning
Work smarter, not harder and feel empowered every step of the way.
OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE TRAINING (OPT)
Whether you're preparing for a 10 mile marathon, or need to be able to sprint to catch a bus, this method of training sees everyone as an athlete. The phases of this training programme progress through:
Stabilisation: To help address physical imbalances whilst stabilising joints.
Strength Endurance & Hypertrophy: To build muscular strength, tone and condition the body.
Power: This final phase increases lean muscle mass and is the power required to throw that shot put or push a heavy item, like a suitcase up an incline.
Once I've identified your health and fitness goals and carried out physical assessments, a Training Programme will be developed to take you through the above OPT phases. As I focus on beginners and women aged over 40, exercises begin as low impact with stabilisation of joints, to reduce the chance of physical injury whilst exercising. Once physical imbalances are addressed and muscle memory developed, the option to move into high impact training isalways available.
Why beginners ? Joining a studio class of varied abilities for the first time, can feel intimidating and more challenging to understand the instructions given for each exercise and how to best perform them. Focusing on correct form, alignment and stability amongst beginners reduces the propensity for injury and builds a solid base to progress in training and the confidence to train alone at home or in a gym environment or join a studio class.
Why women over 40? Generally at around age 40, hormones decline in women (it can can start as early as 35), making it necessary to change the way we approach our nutrition, exercise, and sleep patterns in order to feel ourselves again. High intensity workouts may increase cortisol levels and just generally make you feel burned out with no visible improvement in your body shape or muscle tone. Here we focus on exercising to build muscle, burning away fat without burning yourself out. Lower cortisol levels by regulating the nervous system and improving metabolic rate. So, if you’re feeling sluggish, struggling with weight gain no matter how many times you pound the treadmill, brain fog, insomnia, you’re not alone..I understand.
